On June 11, 2026, the Ateneo de Madrid hosted the political event “Resistance Changes the Global Balance of Power”. Organized by the Anti-Imperialist Movement of Madrid, the event brought together representatives from Palestine, Iran, Cuba, and Donbass to analyze the principal challenges facing the anti-imperialist struggle in the current international context.
Representatives from Palestine, Iran, Cuba, and Donbass participated in the political event “Resistance Changes the Global Balance of Power,” organized by the Anti-Imperialist Movements of Madrid. The speakers agreed on the need to strengthen coordination among the struggles of peoples, defend national sovereignty against imperialist aggression, and advance the construction of a broad international front of resistance.
The event began with welcoming remarks from a representative of the Republican Network of the Ateneo de Madrid, who emphasized the importance of strengthening spaces for meeting, analysis, and organization among forces committed to defending the sovereignty of peoples and combating imperialism.
Jaldía Abubakra, a member of the executive committee of Masar Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, then spoke, placing the discussion within the framework of a global confrontation between the imperialist bloc led by the United States, NATO, and their allies, and the camp of resistance composed of liberation movements, peoples in struggle, and revolutionary forces from different parts of the world.
Abubakra stressed that Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Donbass, and other struggles for national sovereignty do not constitute isolated conflicts, but rather different expressions of the same confrontation against imperialist and colonial domination. She also underscored the need to move toward the construction of a broad international front of resistance.
“In the face of imperialist aggression, the task of our time is to build a broad international front of resistance that unites the peoples and movements fighting for their sovereignty and liberation,” she emphasized
The panel also included a representative of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who analyzed the ongoing aggression against his country and denounced the attempts by the United States and its allies to prevent the peoples of the region from fully exercising their sovereignty and independence.
A representative of the Cuban Embassy addressed the consequences of the blockade and coercive measures imposed on the island, emphasizing the importance of internationalist solidarity in the face of the imperialist offensive against peoples defending sovereign political projects.
The situation in Eastern Europe was presented by an activist in solidarity with Donbass, who discussed the impact of years of conflict and the role played by NATO’s expansion in the region.
A member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) analyzed the situation of the Palestinian resistance in the context of the Zionist-imperialist genocide that the Palestinian people continue to endure and highlighted the growing coordination among the various forces that make up the Axis of Resistance in the region.
One of the central moments of the event was the public reading of the founding manifesto of the Anti-Imperialist Movements of Madrid, an organization launched by dozens of political, social, and international solidarity groups, including, among others, the Masar Badil, Alkarama Palestinian Women’s Movement and Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network. The document presents a comprehensive analysis of the current phase of imperialism and denounces the aggressions against Palestine, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Donbass, Western Sahara, and other peoples facing occupation, blockade, war, or foreign intervention. It also calls for strengthening internationalist solidarity, rejecting NATO-driven rearmament, and advancing the construction of a united response to imperialism, Zionism, and fascism.
The event concluded with remarks from representatives of ACATS, the Anti-Imperialist Front (FAI), and the Madrid Platform Against NATO and Military Bases. All emphasized the need to reinforce coordination among anti-imperialist organizations and strengthen popular mobilization against the policies of militarization, war, and plunder promoted by the Western powers.
The Anti-Imperialist Movements of Madrid announced their intention to continue this space for political reflection and exchange through the organization of future activities and debates that will deepen analysis of the international situation and strengthen coordination among the various expressions of internationalist solidarity.
The various speakers agreed that, in the face of an increasingly aggressive imperialist offensive, it is essential to strengthen the unity of anti-imperialist forces and advance the construction of a broad front of resistance capable of supporting the struggles of peoples for sovereignty, dignity, and liberation.
