The decision by Colombia’s incoming far-right De La Espriella government to resume relations with the Zionist entity and announce the opening of a Colombian embassy in occupied Jerusalem constitutes a serious political and moral regression. This decision is not merely a diplomatic step; it reflects a clear alignment with a settler-colonial entity that continues to perpetrate the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people, at a time when its leaders face legal proceedings before international courts for war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of genocide, and it reflects the full alignment and subjugation of the Colombian far-right to U.S. imperialism and its top priority, Zionist colonization.
Recognizing occupied Jerusalem as the capital of “Israel” constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and grants legitimacy to the illegal annexation of a city that remains under military occupation. It also represents a direct assault on the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people and a betrayal of the decades-long solidarity forged by the Colombian people with Palestine and with liberation movements throughout the world.
The gravity of this decision becomes even more evident when viewed in its political context. The haste with which Colombia’s new government is moving, even prior to inauguration and while serious claims of electoral fraud are being pursued, to restore relations with the Zionist entity and announce the transfer of its embassy to occupied Jerusalem clearly reveals the extent of the alignment between its foreign policy and the strategic interests of both the United States and the Zionist colonial project.
The peoples of Latin America know all too well how imperialism operates. It imposes its domination not only through military force and economic pressure, but also by financing political projects aligned with its interests, exerting diplomatic pressure, controlling major media outlets, orchestrating disinformation campaigns, employing private companies linked to intelligence agencies, and continuously intervening in the political life of sovereign states. Time and again, these operations come to light years later, when declassified documents, investigative journalism, or the admissions of officials themselves expose mechanisms whose existence had long been denied.
In this context, it is entirely legitimate to view with concern the public support extended to the incoming Colombian government, from the pre-election period to the present day, by Donald Trump and sectors closely tied to the global Zionist movement, as well as the allegations raised during the electoral process regarding the possibility of external interference aimed at influencing its outcome. The facts already make one reality unmistakably clear: the first major plans of the new government confirm its rapid integration into the service of the geopolitical interests of the United States and the Zionist entity, while distancing itself from the historic legacy of solidarity that united broad sectors of the Colombian people with the struggle of the Palestinian people.
This step cannot be viewed as an isolated decision. Rather, it forms part of the renewed U.S. offensive to reassert political control over Latin America, a region that Washington continues to regard as its sphere of influence. For decades, the United States has not hesitated to support coups d’état, impose blockades and sanctions, carry out military interventions, launch destabilization campaigns, and sponsor governments aligned with its interests. The objective has always remained the same: to prevent the peoples of the Global South from exercising full sovereignty, to maintain control over their strategic resources, to undermine any independent project of regional integration, and to preserve an international order based upon imperial domination.
The Palestinian people have understood this reality for more than a century. The Zionist project has never been merely a local settler enterprise; from its inception, it has formed part of an international colonial project aimed at establishing a functional entity serving imperial interests in the heart of the Arab region. The establishment of “Israel” was not the product of a natural balance of forces or spontaneous historical development, but the result of prolonged political, financial and military planning backed directly by Western colonial powers, which provided the protection, political cover and resources necessary to uproot the Palestinian people from their land and replace them with settlers.
Since then, the Zionist entity has continued to perform this role. It has become an advanced outpost for imperial interests in West Asia and a permanent laboratory for the development of technologies of repression, surveillance, espionage and military control, which are subsequently exported around the world. Accordingly, normalization with this entity does not mean establishing relations with a state like any other. Rather, it means integrating into a colonial project founded upon occupation, settlement, apartheid and genocide, directed against all peoples struggling for independence and sovereignty.
Jerusalem is not a bargaining chip nor a diplomatic prize that any government has the authority to bestow upon this entity. It is an occupied Arab Palestinian city. International law and United Nations resolutions have consistently affirmed the nullity of all measures taken by the occupation to alter its legal status, demographic composition or historic identity. Any embassy established in occupied Jerusalem constitutes practical recognition of the occupation and a direct contribution to legitimizing the policies of annexation and settlement rejected by the international community.
Standing alongside the Zionist entity is not merely taking the side of a military occupation; it is aligning with a global system based on colonialism, war, plunder, and the denial of peoples’ right to self-determination.
At a time when the occupation continues to commit genocide, starvation and forced displacement against our people in the Gaza Strip, intensifies its aggression throughout the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, and expands its colonial settlements across all of Palestine, any step that grants it political or diplomatic cover amounts to complicity in entrenching these crimes and encourages its leaders to continue their policy of impunity.
On this basis, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement calls upon our Palestinian people, the forces of liberation throughout Latin America, popular movements, trade unions, progressive parties, and all free people around the world to reject this decision and confront it through every political and popular means available. The movement further calls for strengthening the international front of solidarity with Palestine, recognizing that the struggle of the Palestinian people is not merely a national cause but a shared battle against colonialism, imperialism and racism everywhere.
The movement also affirms that the future of relations between the peoples of Latin America and Palestine will not be determined by governments aligned with the imperial project, but by the will of the peoples, who have always stood on the side of justice, freedom and truth, and who understand that the liberation of Palestine is an inseparable part of the broader struggle for global liberation.
Despite genocide, siege and occupation, our Palestinian people will continue their legitimate struggle until the realization of their full, inalienable national rights: the liberation of all of Palestine, from the river to the sea; the return of the refugees to the homes from which they were expelled; the freedom of all Palestinian prisoners; the dismantling of the Zionist settler-colonial system; and the establishment of a free Palestine throughout its national territory.
Glory to the martyrs.
Freedom for the prisoners.
Victory to the resistance.
Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea.
