Statement on the Arrest of Comrade Mohammed Khatib
We hold the Greek authorities fully responsible for his safety and for the consequences of his arrest and deportation

The Masar Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, strongly condemns the arrest by the Greek authorities of Mohammed Khatib, Europe coordinator of the Samidoun Network and a member of the Movement’s Executive Committee, on the island of Crete while he was on his way to participate in a seminar on the conditions of prisoners in the occupation’s prisons. The Movement considers this arrest to be a direct act of political repression and a clear response to the escalating Zionist incitement against any activity supporting the Palestinian cause and against any voice that exposes the crimes of the occupation and demands the rights of our people.

This arrest comes within the context of a systematic campaign aimed at silencing solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners’ movement and halting any activity that exposes the genocidal war being waged against our people in the Gaza Strip. We consider that the Greek authorities have entered into an actual partnership with the occupation when they allow Zionist influence to control their security and judicial decisions and use the prisoners’ issue as a pretext to suppress political freedoms and silence Palestinian voices in Europe.

We affirm that the seminar scheduled to take place today on the issue of prisoners will proceed as planned and will not be deterred by any repressive measures or security threats. We call on the masses, popular forces, and progressive movements in Greece and beyond to support the seminar and to participate broadly in activities in support of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement.

The Masar Badil demands the immediate and unconditional release of comrade Mohammed Khatib, member of the Movement’s Executive Committee and Europe coordinator of the Samidoun Network, the cancellation of any deportation, detention, or harassment measures against him, and his immediate release without any conditions. The Movement also holds the Greek authorities fully responsible for his safety and for any political, legal, or security consequences that may result from the continuation of his detention or his deportation. It affirms that maintaining his detention or proceeding with deportation measures would constitute a dangerous escalation and a direct targeting of political and solidarity work.

The Movement calls on all friendly and progressive Greek forces and human rights advocates in Greece to reject the repression of Palestinian voices, to oppose attempts to silence solidarity with the Palestinian people, and to take to the streets immediately to demonstrate and protest against measures that tighten repression against Palestinians and supporters of their cause. It further calls for an end to any agreements or policies that enhance the influence of the occupation or legitimize the normalization of relations with it, particularly agreements concluded between the Zionist entity and both Cyprus and Greece.

The Movement affirms that this arrest comes amid clear Zionist overreach in Greece and within a frenzied Zionist media campaign targeting the growing momentum of activities supporting the prisoners’ movement and rejecting the genocidal war on Gaza. The Movement emphasizes that repression will not deter us and that our struggle will not retreat in the face of any repression or threat; every repressive step only ignites greater determination within us and strengthens solidarity with the prisoners and with our people in Gaza and throughout all of Palestine.
