Mohammed Khatib, member of the Executive Committee of the Masar Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, said in an interview with Al-Aqsa TV that the recognition of a “State of Palestine” by some European countries does not constitute recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to exist and to exercise self-determination over the whole of historic Palestine, but rather amounts only to recognition of the Palestinian Authority.
Al-Khatib added that “what should have come first is the recognition of the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and putting an end to the Western propaganda that promotes the occupation and arms it with weapons,” stressing that such superficial steps do not serve the Palestinian cause.
Regarding the international conference in New York on the so-called “peace settlement” and implementation of the two-state solution, al-Khatib viewed it as a conference serving the interests of the occupation and not the Palestinian people. He called on Arab states to change their positions by closing down the Zionist embassies and ending the path of normalization.
He pointed out that Belgians have filed a lawsuit against their own government over its involvement in supporting the occupation, noting the escalation of popular mobilization targeting weapons factories that supply the occupation army with military equipment.
Al-Khatib also emphasized that what distinguishes the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza is the determination of its participants to move forward despite the risks, predicting that it will be confronted by the occupation as happened with previous ships.
He concluded by affirming that the Palestinian resistance has supporters in Brussels, Berlin, North America and South America, and called for continuing to support and stand with the resistance until it achieves its goals.
