“The time has come to expel ‘Israel’ from the United Nations. It is an illegitimate entity, a colonial project that is built on the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and poses a great danger not only to Palestine, but to the region and the world as a whole. It has shown repeatedly that it has no respect for the United Nations or its institutions and has never implemented any resolution of the United Nations nor shown any respect for international law since its occupation of Palestine in 1948,” said Khaled Barakat, member of the Executive Committee of the Masar Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, following the passage of a UN Security Council resolution on Monday, March 25, 2024, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Barakat noted that the standard by which we measure all resolutions of the United Nations and its fellow international institutions is not only by the text of their documents but, more importantly, the implementation of their decisions. In practice, the United Nations, and especially the Security Council, has been hijacked by the United States and its fellow Western imperialist powers, to serve their interests. The unipolar global order is outdated and rapidly moving toward a multipolar or pluripolar framework, and the United Nations and its institutions must be reshaped according to the interests and rights of peoples, reflecting the new balance of power in the world.

The United States, Britain and the European Union are imperialist powers that belong to the old world of colonialism. Today, a new multipolar world is taking shape and global and regional powers are rising to confront U.S. and Zionist hegemony in the region, Barakat affirmed.

Zionism is a form of racism

“Further, we must work to restore the principled UN resolution, UN General Assembly Resolution 3379, upholding that Zionism is a form of racism. This resolution was adopted on November 10, 1975 and was rescinded in 1991 as a gift to ‘Israel’ because of its participation in the infamous Madrid Conference and the so-called ‘peace process’. Many countries were complicit in this crime against the Palestinian people, and it is long past time to reaffirm this fundamental truth,” Barakat said.

The Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement affirmed that “Israel” must be dismantled and a new, liberated Palestine constructed from the river to the sea, where all citizens live in dignity under the sovereign self-determination of the Palestinian people.

Barakat further condemned the role of the United States as a full partner and director of the ongoing Zionist genocide in Gaza, while noting that the Biden administration does not reflect the position of the masses of people in the United States who have taken to the streets in large numbers to reject the genocide and war crimes being carried out by “Israel” with U.S. weaponry and funding. “The same that applies to the United States also applies to Canada, Britain, France and even Germany. The people have been awakened and will not be deceived again.” He noted the self-sacrifice of Aaron Bushnell, the U.S. Air Force service member who burned himself alive in front of the Zionist embassy in Washington, DC to demand an end to the genocide.

He noted further that “The countries of the world must understand that it is the armed resistance that represents the Palestinian people, and not an Authority based on subservience to the occupation based in Ramallah. The Palestinian resistance represents the demands and wishes of the Palestinian people for justice, return, freedom and liberation.”

Yemen’s historic stand with the Palestinian people

Barakat drew attention to the unique and historic role being played by the Yemeni people, government, armed forces and AnsarAllah movement in participating in the struggle for the liberation of Palestine, noting that “Yemen and the Yemeni armed forces are the only state party that respects humanity and international law and has taken material and forceful action to stop the genocide in Gaza. Today, the Yemeni people mark 9 years of the ongoing U.S.-British-Saudi aggression against Yemen. On this occasion, we salute the steadfastness of the Yemeni people who continue to confront this aggression as they stand beside the Palestinian people with an honorable and noble stance in defense of our people, especially in the Gaza Strip.”
